Jacob (Jaap) Pinto was a son of Juda Pinto and Hendrina de Groot, and a brother of Flora Englander-Pinto. On 12 January 1927, Jacob Pinto married Duifje Matteman in Amsterdam. Jacob had several occupations. He started out as a diamond polisher, later became a diamond sawyer, and finally sold bags and leather goods at the markets on Waterlooplein and in Dapperstraat.
