David van Dal, son of Samuel van Dal and Hendrika van der Sluijs, was married (probably after 1937) to the non-Jewish Catharina Gerarda Huberta de Kort from Tilburg, daughter of Adrianus de Kort and Johanne Wilhelmina Busink.
The last known address for David van Dal was Beverstraat 1 in Rotterdam, where he was registered during the mandatory registration of all Jewish inhabitants by de Jewish Council of Rotterdam in 1941.
11 May 1943, David van Dal was deported to Westerbork and had to stay in barrack 63. From notes made on his registration cards can be deduced that David van Dal had two children and that he has tried to be exempted from deportation as he was mixed-married (his wife was roman-catholic of faith). To this end, all appropriate bodies have been contacted to submit documents, statements, deeds and certificates of baptism. Even on 18 May 1943, still documents were requested from the Population Registries of Rotterdam and Amersfoort (the birthplace of the mother-in-law of David van Dal). On 19 and 20 May the necessary documents were received in Westerbork, however, the last entry on the registration card of David van Dal made read: “further steps no goal. Documents returned. (Presumably on transport.)”
David van Dal was put on transport already on 18 May from Westerbork to Sobibor and on arrival there 21 May 1943 immediately killed.
