Philippus van Dam was a son of Abram Isaac van Dam and Hanna Rijnsveld. Philippus was married and the couple had one child. Both his wife and his child have survived the war. Philippus van Dam was a salesman. He lived for 3 or 4 months in Den Haag, Rotterdam or Amsterdam respectively.
On 8 December 1942 his family received a postcard from Westerbork. On this card he wrote that he stayed at the moment on the Paviljoensgracht and that he would leave for Westerbork the next morning at six o’clock. He greeted his family and wrote that he hopefully would come back with the help of God.
