Izak de Witte was married to Regina Sara Godschalk. The couple fled in 1938 to the Netherlands, where they ended up in Haaksbergen. His wife became gravely ill and in November 1939, she died in the Sint Antonius hospital in Haaksbergen. **
In 1942, Izak de Witte himself became a patient in the Sint Antonius hospital. In 1943, a prohibition came in force for Jews to remain in the province and Izak de Witte was transferred to Westerbork together with all the other Jewish patients.
