Mirjam (Jane) Baruch was a daughter of Isaac Sacharias Baruch and Sara Pezaro.

In 1877, Mirjam Baruch, her parents, and two sisters moved from Amsterdam to Paris where another sister and brother were born. Her older brother Isaac Haim stayed with his grandparents in Amsterdam. Mirjam was a shopkeeper. She returned to the Netherlands before the war. Isaac Haim Baruch and Mirjam (Jeanne) Marchand-Baruch, a cousin of hers, supported her financially.
