Martha Asser was the daughter of Moritz Mouritz Asser and Henriette Levin. Martha came from Altona. A friend of Barend Swartberg from Assen was married to Martha's sister. At one point, Barend went to Altona and met Martha there. They were married in Altona-Hamburg on 23 June 1904. They had two children. After Barend died, Martha went to live with her son Louis and his wife Maria Sara Gosler. Martha's other child survived the war.
