Betje Sternfeld was a daughter of Hendrik Sternfeld and Aaltje Rubens. She married in Gouda on 16 May 1923 to Nathan Katan, son of Jacob Levie Katan and Mietje van Praagh.
Betje's parents, Hendrik Sternfeld and Aaltje Rubens had six children, of whom one son died only a few months old. The other children Sternfeld were Sientje, who passed away in 1938 and who was married to Jacob Gosschalk, Jozeph, who died already in 1906, Eva and Benjamin.
From Aaltje Rubens' first marriage, four children has been born of whom the first born son died only one month old. Her other halfbrothers and halfsister were Maurits Schenk, Levie Schenk and Jette Schenk.
