Maurice Simon Zwaaf was the son of artist Isidore Zwaaf (1873-1940).
He married Carolina Wolf in 1940. She was divorced and had a child from the previous marriage. The child lived with the family, but was not yet adopted by Maurice Zwaaf. He wanted to wait till after the war. The child therefore kept the name of his biological father. Maurice Zwaaf could play the piano beautifully.
According to a relative Maurice Zwaaf was betrayed shortly before the end of the war by a girl he used to have a relationship with before he married Carolina Wolf.
