Israel van Crefeld was a son of Samuel van Crefeld and Mietje Blitz. He married in Amsterdam on 11 October 1939 to Elisabeth van Buuren, whith whom he had a little daughter in 1941, named Mia Marianne.
His wife Elisabeth and also his daughter Mia Marianna have surivived the Holocaust.

Israel van Crefeld was a teacher of the Dutch language at the Jewish school for higher education on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam.
