Abraham Leizer Färber, born 2 June 1899 in Oswieçim (Poland) arrived from Germany in Den Haag in 1924. His wedding was however in Germany: on 13 April 1933 he married Beile Springer, born 17 March 1905 in Nowy Sacz (Poland) in Düsseldorf and on 1 May 1933 she became an inhabitant of Den Haag.
In Den Haag, three children were born to the Färber couple: Leo in 1934, Richard in 1935 and Jeanne in 1937. Leo however passed away in Den Haag, only 8 years old on 31 August 1942 but Richard and Jeanne were murdered in the Shoah, just as their parents.
Abraham Leizer Färber was taken in on 12 January 1942 in the Central Israëlitic Psychiatric Hospital “Het Apeldoornse Bos”. Till then, after being relocated several times in Den Haag, he lived with his family at Hofwijckstraat 29, where at no. 27 he had a small factory for knitted clothing. However, Abraham, together with all other patients and staff from the Apeldoornse Bos were deported on 22 January to Auschwitz and immediately upon arrival there murdered on 25 January 1943.
Also his wife Beile Springer was taken in the Apeldoornse Bos, which was on 16 October 1942. She, as well all others were deported to Auschwitz on 22 January 1943 and upon arrival there on 25 January 1943 immediately murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Prior to the moment that Abraham Leizer and his wife Beile no longer lived at Hofwijckstraat 29 in Den Haag, two of their three children, namely Richard and Jeanne, were placed in the Jewish Orphanage at Pletterijstraat 66 in Den Haag. However, their son Leo never lived there, he probably died at home at Hofwijckstraat 29.
Mother Beile Färber-Springer probably brought her children Richard and Jeanne to the orphanage herself. The registers of the Israelitic Orphanage state that both children were admitted there on 11 September 1942, i.e. after the death of their little brother Leo and before their mother left for the Apeldoornse Bos.
In the late evening of 5 March 1943, the German authorities raided the orphanage. All those present, staff and children, were forcibly removed from the orphanage and forced to board waiting trucks and transported to Westerbork. On 6 March 1943, also Richard and Jeanne Färber were registered in Camp Westerbork and had to stay for a few days in barrack 66. On 10 March most children and adults were deported to the Sobibór extermination camp, including Richard and Jeanne Färber, where they werd murdered immediately after arrival in the gas chamber on 13 March 1943.
