Simon van Rhijn was a son of Philip van Rhijn and Maria Philips. On 12 March 1896 he married in Amsterdam Esther Dwinger from Leeuwarden, a daughter of Abraham Dwinger and Penina Hirsch. The couple had three children, namely Maria, Abraham and Penina, who has surived the Holocaust. His wife Esther however passed away 11 August 1937 in Amsterdam and was interred two days later, on 13 August 1937 in the Jewish Cemetery in Muiderberg. His daughter Maria and son Abraham were killed in the Shoah.
Simon van Rhijn lived at Nieuwe Keizersgracht 47 hs, where also his daughter Maria and her husband Levie Moscoviter lived. Simon, Maria and his son-in-law Levie Moscoviter were sent to Camp Westerbork on 28 January 1943. Maria and her husband were sent from Westerbork to concentration camp Vught but later via Westerbork deported to Sobibor where they were killed. Simon van Rhijn however was deported already 2 February to Auschwitz, where he was killed immediately upon arrival there on 5 Februray 1943.
