Elizabeth Groen, born in Den Helder on 18 February 1867, was a daughter of Abraham Izaak Groen and Rachel Arons. Her parents, who were married in Den Helder on 15 May 1856, had seven children, of whom Izaak and Hartog and she herself reached adulthood, The other children, i.e. Betje, Aaltje, Mozes and Aron have died already at young and/or very young age
Elizabeth’s brother Izaak Groen was born 12 September 1857 in Den Helder. He married on 28 Augusgt 1884 in Amsterdam to Betje Arons, born 18 September 1863 as daughter of Izaak Hartog Arons and Flora David Nathans. The marriage however ended by a divorce by verdict of the District Court of Amsterdam on 28 May 1896. (registered in the Civil Registry of Amsterdam on 9 October 1896). Betje Arons died 22 February 1929 in Amsterdam and was interred at Muiderberg. On 26 January 1898 Ithe 40-year old zaak remarried the 19-year old Johanna Maria Sammels, a daughter of Johannes Christianus Sammels and Catharina Maria Kamevaar. On 11 February 1914 also this marriage ended in a divorce. Izaak and Johanna had a son Henri, who married at the age of 24 years on 3 September 1925 in Utrecht to Christine Justine v.d. Velde from Emden, (Germany), aged 25, but also this marriage ended in a divorce on 11 January 1933. Not known however is when and where Izaak Groen and his son Henri have died.
The other brother of Elizabeth, Hartog Groen, born 8 January 1861 in Den Helder, was diamond polisher, outfitter and dealer of clothing by profession. On 18 June 1889 he married Mietje van Rood in Hilversum, who was born there on 6 January 1869 as daughter of Benjamin van Rood and Sientje (Sijntje) van Spier. The couple had four children, namely Sophia, Sientje and the twin Abraham and Benjamin. Mietje van Rood survived the war, resided in 1954 in Den Bosch but passed away in Amsterdam on 3 June 1954 at the age of 85. She was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Of Hartog Groen is only known that he lived in Le Havre in France in 1925 but not when and where he has died.
Elizabeth Groen herself was unmarried and lived since 31 March 1926 at Weesperstraat 39 in Amsterdam. She previously lived in Zandvoort. Elizabeth Groen was registered 23 September 1942 in Westerbork and already two days later, on 25 September, put on transport to Auschwitz. On arrival there on 28 September 1942 she was immediately killed.
