Margaret Alter

Margaret Alter appears on a handwritten list of the individuals who held offices within the Dutch-Jewish Community in Haarlem during the early years of the war. Margaret Alter helped at the Dutch-Jewish Joles Hospital. Photos remain of all the staff members. Margaret Alter was unmarried and lived at 69 A. van Burenlaan in Haarlem.

The police commissioner of Haarlem requested that Sara Alter-Wertheim, her daughter Margaret and her son Robbie Samuel be located, detained and brought to trial. They lived in Haarlem and were suspected of having changed their place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.

Het gezin Alter woonde in de Cavaleriestraat 23 in Breda. Vader Jacob Alter handelde in schoenfournituren. Mijn moeder - meisjesnaam Beb de Bruijn uit Breda (geboren in 1922), was omstreeks 1937 bevriend met Ettie Alter (Margaret), eveneens geboren in 1922. 

Ik vond van Etty een gedichtje in mijn moeders poeziealbum, ondertekend met 'Je Vriendin Ettie Alter.' Datum: 27-02-'37.
