Joseph Vogel was a son of Isaäc Vogel and Trijntje Lubig. He was born as the 4th child in a family of 10 children and he earned his daily living as a pedlar.
Joseph Vogel was married three times. He married his first wife, Lina de Korte on 28 March 1911 in Amsterdam and had with her two children, viz. Catharina on 23 June 1911 and Alida on 2 August 19143. Catharina, who was married to Izak Bloemist (1910) in Amsterdam on 18 December 1935, survived the Holocaust but her husband Izak lost his life in Buchewald on 27 February 1945.
After the war, the widow Catharina Vogel remarried to Jesaia Canes and from that wedlock, a daughter was born in 1948. The second daughter of Joseph and Lina was Alida Vogel, who was married to Daniel de Haan (1912) on 10 April 1940. Both have been murdered on 16 July 1943 in Sobibor.
Lina de Korte however passed away already at the age of 38 years on 21 September 1920 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Joseph Vogel then remarried on 1 December 1920 to Esther Korper, a daughter of Levie Korper and Aaltje Rootveld. Esther was born on 14 April 1887 but passed away the next year, childless, on 19 September 1921. Esther too was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
About six months after the passing of his second wife, Joseph Vogel married the sister of his late wife Esther, Duifje Korper, who was born on 16 December 1891. The marriage was concluded in Amsterdam on 28 June 1922 and on 18 May 1923, a son was born: Louis Vogel. Louis married on 21 July 1942 Catharina Wurms but both were murdered during the Holocaust. Catharina was murdered on 3 December 1942 in Auschwitz and Louis Vogel lost his life somewhere in Mid-Europe on 31 March 1944.
Joseph Vogel did not grow old: already at the age of 45 he passed away on 25 October 1932 and was interred to in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. His widow, Duifje Korper remarried on 28 August 1940 in Amsterdam the widower of Margaretha van West, Nachman Schouten (1884), a son of Barend Schouten and Saartje Halberstad. Duifje as well her 2nd spouse Nachman Schouten were murdered in Auschwitz on 12 October 1942.
