Hermina Beem's last residence before Westerbork was the Portugees-Israëlitisch Meisjesweeshuis, Nieuwe Prinsengracht 17 in Amsterdam. Though she initially had a Sperre (temporary exemption from deportation) owing to her job there as a housekeeper, Hermina was ultimately sent away on the first transport from Westerbork to Sobibor, along with several other staff members and charges from the orphanage.
