Horst came to the Netherlands on December 13th, 1938. He lived in de Steeg and Eindhoven before coming to Wieringen in February 1940. He was not a Zionist, and training at the smithy.
His father, Albert, born on October 22nd, 1885 in Bonn, was a salesman, his mother was Hilda Rosenberg, born on February 19th, 1887 in Hersfeld. His father was taken to Buchenwald in 1941: his mother to Auschwitz in February 1943.
They did not have any emigration plans.
