Gerd came to the Netherlands with a Kindertransport on january 4th, 1939. First he stayed in Bergen aan Zee (Zeehuis), in March 1939 he was transferred to Driebergen. In July of that year he went to Rotterdam, where he stayed in different homes for refugees.
His father Herman had passed away, his mother Hedwig Nathan was living in Soest, Westfalen, in September 1940.
