RUTH LISSER - Born November 15th 1928

Ruth’s father Kurt Lisser (born 7/6/1900) was a Lawyer. Kurt’s parents were Alfred and Elsa (born 26/9/1876 nee Philip) His wartime address was Scheldestr 94 Amsterdam Noordholland.

Ruth’s mother was Liselotte Lisser-Posner born Pforzheim, 1/11/1907.

Her parents were divorced. Ruth lived with her mother at Achillesstraat 18 I Amsterdam. She attended the geerte Groote School. Her mother Liselotte worked as a teacher cutting and sewing at the M.B. Nijkerkschool - a technical school for Jewish boys in Amsterdam.

Ruth and both her parents were sent to Kamp Westerbork 20th June 1943

Ruth’s father had a high position in the Jewish council. He was working in the Expositur which was the body responsible for contact between the Joodse Raad and the German authorities. This position meant his family were among eighty people released only one month later on 21st July 1943.

Barely four weeks later in August Kurt, Liselotte and Ruth Lisser were ordered back to Westerbork. They went into hiding rather than return as requested.

While they were in hiding Ruth’s grandmother Elsa was murdered in Auschwitz August 27th 1943. Her deportation to Auschwitz would most likely be a direct consequence of the family having failed to return as requested.

Two months later on 9th October 1943, Ruth and her parents were caught in hiding and brought back to Westerbork and placed in Punishment barrack (B67)

The three of them were deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz on Feb 8th 1944

Ruth and her mother were murdered on arrival in Auschwitz 11th Feb 1944

Her father Kurt Lisser died in Auschwitz 10 days later on 18-2-1944
