Hijman Cohen's death was described in graphic detail by former Auschwitz prisoner Stanislaw Glowa during the post-war Höss Trial. Hijman Cohen was personally killed by SS Staff Sergeant Klehr in a fit of violent rage. After Klehr murdered Hijman on 11 September 1942, he gave personal and direct orders for Hijman's death certificate to be falsified.
Klehr was sentenced to life in prison in 1965, in part due to his murder of Hijman Cohen.
