Widowed since 1936 the merchant was father of four children. His wife Christina came from Dokkum in Friesland. Her family had loose connection to Sneek and Dutch-Westfalian merchant families.
Hijman himself lived last in Amsterdam before his arrest, one of his sons - Johann - had also an address there. The documents from Buchenwald lists him as non-religious and Dutch national.
The reason for his arrest was membership in the S.D.A.P. (prob. Socialist German Workers Party).
Ida, his daughter-in-law, also come into the focus of German autorities and is listed as a forced laborer with her children in Fulda, Germany for the years 1944 and 1945.
The fate of Hijmans children - probably 2 daughters and 2 sons - is as of 2022-11-20 unknown.
