My grandfather, David Brommet, and grandmother, Hendrika Kroon along with Sara Brommet all died in Auschwitz in 1942. Their son, Simon Brommet, lived in Belgium at the time they were taken. I understand that he was arrested while trying to get his mother to safety.
Simon Brommet was sent to another camp in Auschwitz (possibly Auschwitz II) and was liberated from Buchenwald on April 11, 1945 by American troops. He spent some time in hospital after the war, having lost much weight and his toes (during the march to Buchenwald in February of 1945).
He later married my mother, Elisabeth Catarina Kok, and had two children, Elsje Hendrika (b. 1948 in Amsterdam) and Donald (b. 1950 in Amsterdam). He emigrated to Canada in May 1952 with his new wife,Willemina Vermeer, and Elsje and Donald. Another child was born in November 1961, David Otto Brommet.
My father is still alive, just turned 93 on February 9, 2013, and lives in Toronto
