Josef (Jose) Bythiner was born on May 14, 1872 in Szamotuly, Wielkopolskie, Poland (Samter, Posen Germany). He died on May 7, 1943 in Sobibor Concentration Camp, Poland. He married Irma Auerbach on June 9, 1903 in Krotoszyn, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland.

Jose was partners with his brother-in-law, Paul Auerbach in an Import-Export Timber business.
He was also Hindenburg's driver during the First World War (WW-1)
They also owned a Saw Mill.

Irma Auerbach, daughter of Joachim Auerbach and Selma Birnbaum was born on April 29, 1882 in Krotoszyn , Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland

Irma was named after her mother's grandmother.

In about 1922 Irma Bythiner nee Auerbach bought and jointly owned a house in Zoppot (Free City of Dantzig) with er sister-in-law Else Auerbach nee Manasse wife of Irma's brother Paul Joel Auerbach. The address of the house was, Waeldchenstrasse 16. This information was recovered from a letter written by Klaus F.J. Bythiner, Irma's son, who survived the war.
