Arnold Rood and his wife Debora née Van Kleef were trying in July 1942 to reach Switzerland. They were arrested in Pontarlier (Dept. Doubs) on August 2, perhaps after a failed tentative to cross the border. Put into jail in Pontarlier, they were transferred to camp Pithiviers on August 8. From there they were sent to Drancy, and deported to Auschwitz in convoy Nr. 24, on August 26, 1942.

Debora Rood does not appear in the successive editions of Serge Klarsfeld's Memorial of Jews deported from France, but there is little doubt about her deportation in that convoy.
