Hanna had a small business in Dortmund selling tints, dyes, paints. She had aged, sickly parents during WW1 during which time she enrolled her son, Herbert, into the Jewish orphanage at Paderborn. Our understanding was that she was a cultured woman. We have no information about Herbert's father only that he probably died before Herbert had any recollection about him.
