Mietje Baks, born in Arnhem, residing in Rotterdam and since 22 August 1927 in Den Haag with her brother Izaak Baks at Wagenstraat 101, was a daughter of Abraham Jozef Baks and Saarte Frank. She married in Den Haag on 1 February the sponge- and chamois-leather dealer Abraham Porcelijn, a son of Abraham Porcelijn and Sara Polak. Abraham Porcelijn was widowed from Branca Nunes Nabarro and had from his first marriage three children: Sara, Johan and Salomon Elias. The latter has survived the Holocaust.
Mietje Baks’ marriage ended by a divorce on 10 June 1939 in Den Haag. Toghether they had a daughter Sientje, who was also killed during the Shoah. Togehter with her mother Mietje, they were brought into Camp Westerbork on 6 September 1942 and already the next day, 7 September deported to Auschwitz, where both upon arrival there immediately were killed on 10 September 1942.
Also her ex-husband Abraham Porcelijn and two of his children from his first marriage have been killed in the Shoah.
Mietje Baks was born into a family with six children, of whom one son born in 1883 has died already in 1884, only 1 year old. Her other siblings were Rosette born in 1875, Maurits born in 1877, Jozef born in 1881, Izaak born in 1885 and she self born in 1888. They have been all killed in the Shoah. His parents were married in Deventer on 8 April 1869 and they have died already before the war.
