Jozeph West was married to Roosje Mariaantje Lievendag. The couple had two children: their son Nathan and their daughter Jozephina. The family lived at 46 Langestraat in Winschoten at first and later on the Gasthuislaan in Winschoten. Jozeph West was a cattle dealer. His daughter Jozephina was known as Fientje. She attended the state Dwingeloseweg School in Winschoten, until Jewish students were prohibited from attending state schools.
