Machiel Pool was the son of Mozes Pool and Esther Heertje. In Januari 1904 he married Rintje Zwaab, daughter of Emanuel Zwaab and Duifje Komkommer. The couple had five children: Esther, Dora, Philip, Henriette and one child that survived the war.
