Levie Canes (known as Louis) was unmarried. He was a window dresser. As a member of the Comité voor Vrij Nederland [committee for a free Netherlands], he was involved in espionage. A Gestapo agent tricked him, and he was arrested in Haarlem on 14 November 1942. Levie Canes was transferred to Utrecht via the prison at Scheveningen. He was sentenced to death for espionage and arms possession. On 2 March 1944 he was executed at Fort De Bilt in Utrecht. He was 26.
