About Rebecca Polak

Rebecca Polak, daughter of Barend Polak and Esther Prijs, was the second spouse of  Joseph Kokernoot, to whom she married at age 33 in Amsterdam on 9 November 1927. Her husband was previously married to Saartje Wijnschenk who however passed asway on 11 July 1926. From that marriage, two children have been born: Mozes and Lena. Mozes was killed, seven months after his marriage to Auguste Levij from Frankfurt am Main, on 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz. Lena has survived the Shoah. Rebecca’s husband was killed on 19 August 1942 in Auschwitz and she self there too on 23 November 1942.

Rebecca Polak was born into a family with eight children. Her sister Sientje and brother Simon have survived the Holocaust. The others, namely Isaac, Levie, Samuel, Hijman, Mozes (and Rebecca self) have been killed in the Shoah.
