Henri Zonligt, born 21 April 1918 in Amsterdam, son of Levie Zonligt and Naatje de Vries, married 8 April 1942 in Amsterdam Rebecca Bont, born 13 August 1918 in Amsterdam as daughter of Israel Bont and Betje Granaada.
At first, Rebecca Bont lived with her parents and brother Izaak Bont at home in Retiefstraat 38a-ground Floor in Amsterdam-East, but after her wedding she moved in with her husband Henri , who lived also at home with his parents in Pythagorasstraat 18 groundfloor, in the district of Watergraafsmeer , where Henri’s parents runned a guesthouse.
At the time of the mandatory registration of the Jews in Holland, Henri’s father Levie described his guesthouse as “Resthouse Zonligt”, of which Levie was the “resthous owner. His mother Naatje de Vries was registered as “director” and Henri himself as “nurse”. Because of that, the Zonligt family a obtained a “Sperre” from the Jewish Council and were provisionally exempted from deportation. Rebecca Bont, with whom Henri still was married in 1942, was registered as just “seamstress readymade clothing” but received also a “Sperre” because of function of her husband.
Henri and Rebecca had received a call for the so-called work expansion in German, to which they obiviously did not have responed to. They were, after all, “exempted from deportation”. Nevertheless, the non-responding had been probably the result that they were all arrested on 23 March 1943, inclusive Henri's parents Levie and Naatje Zonligt, and were detained in penal barrack 66 in Westerbork.
It has been appeared however that the date of deportation for Henri’s parents was postponed by two weeks i.e. two weeks after Henri and Rebecca were put on transport to Sobibor. Henri’s parents were deported to Sobibor on 13 April and on arrival there on 16 April 1943, immediately killed.
On the other hand, Henri Zonligt and Rebecca Bont were deported to Sobibor with a so-called “penal transport” already one week after arrival in Westerbork, on 30 March 1943, and immediately killed on arrival there on 2 April 1943.
