In 1940 when the Germans occupied the Netherlands they closed the other two remaining refugee camps, Hoek of Holland and Reuven. The people were moved to Camp Westerbork. In 1942 shortly after the February strike of workers in Amsterdam the Germans decided to make Camp Westerbork a transit camp for Jewish people in general. From there the people were deported to the Contrarion Camps.
