Victor Emanuel van Vriesland begon in september 1939 in de eerste klas van het Erasmiaans Gymnasium in Rotterdam. Na de zomer van 1941 moest hij van school af omdat hij Joods was. Victor kwam in de derde klas van het Gemeentelijk Joods Lyceum Rotterdam.
