David Levitus behoorde tot de zogenaamde Koselgroep. De deportatie-trein naar Auschwitz stopte (soms) kort op het station van Kosel, ca 80 km van Auschwitz.
Alle jongens en mannen tussen 15 en ca 50 jaar werden er dan uit gehaald en gescheiden van de familieleden.
