Louis Halberstadt was the son of Joseph Tetje Halberstadt and Reintje Pachter. Louis married in 1895 to Rieka Jacobs, who died in 1915. Louis and Rieka had six children. Two children died when they are very young, Roosje died in the war and three children survived the war. Louis remarried in 1916 to Amalia Tof, daughter of Arent Tof and Roosjen de Vries.
