Bij haar gedwongen ontslag in november 1940 als ambtenaar van de Rijksgebouwendienst in Den Haag, kreeg Elisabeth de Groot een boek met voorin een opdracht geschreven door haar baas , Jan Carel Elias, baron van Lynden. Uit die opdracht blijkt duidelijk dat hij het met dit gedwongen ontslag niet eens was.
