Akiwa Jozef Russ fled to the Netherlands, where he arrived in The Hague on 28 September 1938. He stayed from 4 November 1941 until 18 January 1942 at Huize Voorburg, the youth aliyah home in Elden. This home in the South of Arnhem was intended for older Palestine pioneers (ages 16 to 19). He then returned to The Hague.
