Simon Groothuis was a son of Mozes Groothuis and Elizabeth van Dam. He marrried on 5 February 1908 in Amsterdam to Grietje kan, daughter of Mozes Kan and Truitje Cats. The couple had four children, among them Truitje and Barend.
