Jozef Levie (known as Jo) was a son of Mozes Gerson Levie (born in Roden in 1839) and Anna Bendiks (born in Veendam in 1850). He was married to Mietje Mozes. She called herself Nijveen. Jozef Levie traded cattle and ran a cattle dealership with his brothers Gerson and Benjamin on the Javastraat in Assen, where they owned an old farm. They also sold animal feed products.
