Isidore van Abbe, who was born on 4 October 1902 in Amsterdam as son of Emanuel van Abbe and Mietje van den Bergh, married Betsy Velleman in Haarlem on 19 September 1929. She was born there on 21 March 1902 as daughter of Levie Velleman and his second wife Saartje Slagter. The couple had one daughter, namely Emilie Louise, who was born 21 April 1932 in Amsterdam. Usually she was called Milly.
