Hijman Komkommerman taught English. He rewarded one of his brightest pupils with a pair of skates and a hand-painted decorative plate bearing the text Alles sal regkom (‘Everything will work out for the best’ in Afrikaans). Hijman is rumoured to have been preparing a hiding place in his attic before he was taken away.
