Siegmund Klein was a lawyer in Cologne. After the Kristallnacht in 1938 he fled to Amsterdam with his wife Helene. His son Walter had emigrated to Amsterdam in the summer of 1938 and worked at Oxyde, a company owned by German friends of the family. Walter Klein wordt op 29 mei 1942 op het station van Dole (Fr) gearresteerd door de Feldgendarmerie. Hij droeg vervalste papieren bij zich en was van plan de Zwitserse grens over te steken.
