Lion Waas, the eldest of the three children of Salomon Waas and Debora Delden, was born on 31 January 1918 in Amsterdam. With his parents and twinbrothers Hijman and Jacob the Waas family left for Antwerp in September 1928, where father Salomon found a job as diamond polisher; they lived in Antwerp and in Deurne. Debora Delden was a daughter of Jacob Delden and Leentje Ossedrijver. She was born on 22 August 1897 in Amsteram and married there on 19 September 1919 the diamond polisher Salomon Waas, a son of Lion Mozes Waas and Sara Hekster; Salomon was born on 15 December 1893 in Amsterdam.
