According to tradition Betty Friederika Maarzen was a pretty girl with a friendly character who loved to play the piano. She was 23 years of age when she got acquainted with her non-Jewish husband, a farm labourer. She married on 11 February 1942 in Amsterdam. She moved with her husband to Woudsend.
