Liepman Brilleslijper was a son of Ephraim Brilleslijper and Duifje Roodveld. He was born on 27 February 1871 in the Lange Houtstraat in Amsterdam, where his parents and sibs lived for a long time. At the time he was called up for examination for the National Militia in 1891, Liepman was a workman. Moreover, he was exempted from the Militia due to brotherly service.
