Samuel de Paauw was held up in his uncle Jaap's home in the Javastraat. Like his father and uncle, Samuel was a member of the resistance movement, and he helped with the spread of the illegal press.

Tobias de Paauw was married. He and his wife had four children. The family lived in Amsterdam, where Tobias de Paauw was a shopkeeper. They allowed a few important staff members (including Jacob Melkman) of the underground newspaper Het Parool to hide at their home. They had radio receivers hidden there as well.
