Samuel is een zoon van Betsy Leeda. Hij trouwde 28 december 1932 met Aleida Rolina Adriana Hornkamp (A'dam, 7 maart 1913), dochter van Theodorus Bernardus Hornkamp en Aleida Rolina Adriana den Drijver.
