Hartog Zegerius was a son of Meijer Hartog Zegerius and Duifje Lap. He married Susanna de Jong on 19 April 1899 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Wolf de Jong and Naatje Lampie. Hartog and Susanna had eight children together; four of them died in childhood and three daughters have survived the Holocaust.
