David Hirsch Szlajcher

On 26 February 1814 King William I decreed that the Nederlandsch Israëlitisch Seminarium (NIS) was to be established in Amsterdam to train rabbis, teachers and other officers serving the Jewish community.

David came to the Netherlands on December 20th, 1938. He stayed in de Steeg, Arnhem and Driebergen before moving to the Portuguese Orphanage in Amsterdam, so he could study at the NIS to become a rabbi.
His parents had managed to get to Antwerp.

David Szlajcher was een zoon van Berek en Hinda Szlajcher. Hij had drie zussen: Rebeka, Scheindel en Zilla. De kinderen groeiden op in Keulen. Vader Berek werd in 1938 uitgewezen naar Polen met de zogeheten 'Polen-Aktion'. Hij wist uiteindelijk te ontkomen naar België.
