Samuel van Straten had a small haberdasher’s. In 1942 the Jews of Beesd were called on to report for transport to Westerbork. Samuel found a hiding place in Rhenoy, a village in the neighbourhood of Beesd. There he slept only one night. Early in the morning he was turned out of the house and robbed of all his posessions. Wandering through the polder land he was arrested and was not seen again.
