Reina van Leer, daughter of Leman van Leer and Froukje Levie, was a maidservant. She never married. After working in Amsterdam and The Hague, she moved to Meppel. She lived on the Vledderstraat and later - from 1932 - at 13 Touwstraat, across from the synagogue.
Reina van Leer observed Jewish religious prescriptions. Her niece used to visit her and remembers:
